Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science

King University’s Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science degree is designed for students who want to explore the intricacies and effects of human movement and physical activities. With three concentration options, the program seeks to cultivate future health care professionals and specialists or educators in fitness and sports. 

Exercise Science majors study the impact of inactivity and poor nutrition on chronic disease as well as ways to improve athletic performance, optimize training and recovery from exercise, and reduce injury. The program integrates learning experiences in the classroom with direct application in the laboratory.

Exercise Science majors can work directly with King’s student-athletes on campus and apply what they learn to improve health, wellness, athletic performance, injury prevention, and injury recovery. 

Three Track Options to Optimize Students’ Career Pursuits

The Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science offers three tracks to optimize students’ vocational paths:

  • Kinesiology Track

The Kinesiology track prepares students for graduate school or for careers in health care related fields. This track requires science electives to ensure requirements are met for those looking into graduate school. 

  • Health and Fitness Track

The Health and Fitness track prepares students for careers in fitness and sports. It is designed to align with certification requirements from the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association

  • Physical Education Grades K-12 Licensure Track

The Physical Education Grades K-12 Licensure Track leads to a teaching license. This qualifies students to teach Physical Education in all public and private K-12 schools.

 

BS in Exercise Science Program Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science program employs a robust 124-credit curriculum. Depending on the chosen track, the program coursework and requirements are different, but the curriculum generally consists of core courses, major requirements, and electives. 

Students who choose the Physical Education Grades K-12 Licensure Track also need to complete a K-12 Education Minor and licensure requirements.

Career Options for Exercise Science Majors

By earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science, students are prepared to pursue a wide range of exciting and rewarding careers in health care, fitness, nonprofit, and wellness education.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, many careers in the related field of exercise science are highly in-demand with an above-average job-growth rate:

Exercise Science graduates can also work as K12 PE teachers, or continue graduate study and pursue other health professions such as Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant.

Exercise Science Program Requirements

Submit the following materials to apply to the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science program:

  • A completed application
  • Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended (if applicable)
  • An official high school transcript
  • SAT or ACT scores (optional)

The Exercise Science program requires a laptop with Microsoft Office 2010 or later and wireless and webcam capability.
