Religious Studies

The King University Philosophy and Religion department prepares men and women from all walks of life. We are committed to both excellent scholarship and practical ministry. If your goal is vocational ministry or academia we have the programs to prepare you. Or, if you have an interest in studying philosophy, biblical studies, or religion as an integral part of your higher education, we have the tools and resources to prepare you to be relevant within an increasingly diverse culture.

Curriculum

Our faculty are well-equipped to provide you with a superior education. The curriculum includes courses such as Biblical Greek and Hebrew, theology and interpretation, study of religion within a global context, social scientific approaches to religion, and the relevance of faith within a particular community. It is imperative for students to understand the Christian faith in the context of the 21st century while recognizing the importance of historical tradition. The Philosophy and Religion Dept. at King offers a superb combination of over 150 years of heritage and tradition with new and innovative thinking as we move into the 21st century.

A degree in Religious Studies is not just for those who want to pursue the ministry full-time. Many students pursue our major or minor to enhance their overall educational experiences. Religious studies can be a great addition to any course of study. Many students who pursue biblical studies go on to successful careers in health, science, teaching, journalism, archaeology, law, business, social work, and politics.

Study AbroadTel-Azekah

At King University, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to study in a variety of environments. For example, many students choose to study abroad in our Italy and Israel study programs. During the summer, students and faculty from our department assist Tel Aviv University in a major archaeological dig at Tel-Azekah. These opportunities are provided in order to facilitate global awareness, responsible citizenship, and intellectual depth.

Students and faculty have also assisted missionaries in Calcutta with Mother Teresa's Ministries and in New Delhi volunteering at the Good Samaritan School. Our students have also worked in Kenya and Tanzania establishing theological education and developing safe water supplies. Each summer we also provide humanitarian aid to Palestinian and Syrian refugees in the Middle East. If students are looking for unique intercultural opportunities closer to home, they can take advantage of the wealth of knowledge that our faculty boasts by completing guided independent studies.
