Welcome to the School of Education

Have you always wanted to be a teacher? Have you recently considered teaching as a career option? Are you interested in making a lasting difference in the lives of children and adolescents? If you believe teaching is your calling, please email or call any of our education faculty, or if you are on campus, visit King's Education offices in Kline Hall. We can answer questions related to a career in teaching and discuss steps to reach that goal.

The School of Education offers both baccalaureate and graduate level programs for initial teacher licensure in elementary education (K-5), secondary education (6-12), K-12 music education (both vocal and instrumental), and K-12 physical education.

Education Highlights

  • Over the last three years, more than 85 percent of our graduates have been hired by local school districts
  • Students have the opportunity to get more than 100 practical observation hours in a variety of settings, prior to student teaching; these early field experiences help students to determine preferred grade levels and subject areas.
  • Students are encouraged to develop important dispositions: caring; collaboration; open-mindedness; integrity; responsibility; social justice; self-efficacy; reflexivity; and flexibility, intrinsic qualities that are the hallmark of excellent teachers.
  • Students work closely with education faculty, all of whom have practical experience in a public school setting.

Jobs for Education professionals

After fulfilling all King University and Tennessee Board of Education requirements, including course work and successful Praxis scores, students will spend the final semester prior to graduation in the field, student teaching and making connections that will lead to positive relationships and possible employment opportunities.
