A. We assist students in improving their learning skills including test taking, study
skills, and reading proficiency/speed. We also assist students with documented disabilities
to obtain academic accommodations. Some common accommodations include extra time on
tests, help finding a note taker, testing in a separate, quiet location, etc. Accommodations
vary by disability.
A. Contact KU’s Director of Learning and Disability Services. Documentation requirements
vary by disability, but in all cases documentation must be from a licensed professional
who is credentialed in the area of the documented disability.

A. It is located in Bristol Hall 111 on the Bristol, TN campus. Bristol Hall is between
the Chapel and McClellan Hall. If you are from another KU campus, we can meet with
you via phone, computer, etc.
A. A student must pay for his/her evaluation to document a disability. Some providers/evaluators
work off of a sliding fee scale. If you are eligible for services through your state
vocational rehabilitation agency, you may qualify for a free evaluation.You can locate

*King University is committed to enable students with documented disabilities to participate
in institutional programs by providing reasonable and appropriate accommodations for
them. King will provide support services to students for whom the institution has
appropriate documentation that supports the accommodation request.
Students with disabilities who need academic accommodations or other disability-related
support services must file timely request forms each semester with the Office of Learning
Services for accommodations in course work. King cannot make retroactive accommodations.
Accommodations for students with physical disabilities will be coordinated by the
Office of Learning Services, working in conjunction with other campus offices as appropriate,
including Residence Life, Facilities Services, and Safety and Security.
The types of academic accommodations which can be made include additional time allowed
for examinations, private space for testing, and additional time for written assignments.
Students with disabilities, like all other students, should select courses that take
into account their own particular strengths and weaknesses, seeking guidance from
Peer tutoring in writing, speaking, math, and time management/study skills training
are available to all students through the Academic Center for Excellence. Subject-specific peer tutoring is also available in many academic areas. Students
with disabilities may request additional or longer sessions if needed, however, separate
services designed specifically for disabled students are not provided. Other tutorial
or support services may be sought at the student's expense.
Support services are provided to students with documented disabilities to help them
perform according to their intellectual abilities. King will not provide such support
services if providing them would create an undue burden for the institution. King
is responsible for providing that, within certain limits, students are not denied
the opportunity to participate in institutional programs on the basis of a disability.
King is not required to and will not:
The student, not the institution, is responsible for providing personal care assistance,
personal purchases, personal adaptive equipment, formal educational assessment or
clinical disability evaluation, and services or educational supplies used by all students
(pens, paper, personal computers, software, or computer supplies, etc.).
Students are expected to participate responsibly in using accommodations they have
requested and which have been approved by King. Students with disabilities are bound,
like all students, to the King Honor Code.
