Why study History at King?
The History department at King is committed to creating an atmosphere that allows students to learn from their professors and from each other. Through the Bachelor of Arts in History program, students are introduced to diverse topics that range from the Tudor and Stewart monarchies to World War II to the effects of 9/11 on American politics.
Graduates are well equipped to be transformers of culture, informed citizens, critical thinkers, and discerning consumers of information. They also understand the framework of a Christian worldview and how this shapes and is shaped by history.
The standard History major requires 36 semester hours of coursework. Students also may choose an Integrative track, which allows them to double major in other historically-related fields such as Philosophy and Religion, English, Fine Arts and French or Spanish. The Integrative track requires 28 semester hours in History along with 16 semester hours in the second discipline. Students also have the option of working toward Secondary Education licensure in History by adding a Secondary Education minor.
This program is offered both on-campus and online.
Outside the Classroom
Outside the classroom, the student-led History and Political Science Society arranges social events and the department holds biannual picnics. Students have participated in numerous travel programs, from Austria to London to Prague. Recent internships have allowed students to work in an AIDS hospice in South Africa, the Tennessee state legislature, a living history museum, and the FBI.
King University’s BS in history is one of the best online history degrees available in Tennessee. Historical studies give students a firm foundation in understanding how civilizations form and how people in different places have gone about building communities and governments. The online history degree provides a diverse platform to master a range of topics such as the Civil War, the Cold War, World War I and World War II, and other pivotal events.
