Grammy-Winning Tenor Aaron Blake Offers Vocal Arts Masterclass for Regional Students
Grammy-winning tenor Aaron Blake will lead a Vocal Arts Masterclass for regional high school students on Wednesday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to noon in King’s Memorial Chapel.
The event is offered as part of Mr. Blake’s artist in residence activities at King, and provides instructors and vocalists the opportunity to learn from an internationally recognized tenor who recently premiered “Juliette ou la Cle des Songes” with Opera Nice in France, and who is appearing with the Metropolitan Opera as Basilio in “Le Nozze di Figaro.”
Attendance is open on a first-come, first-served basis to high school choral instructors, their classes, and interested members of the community. The class is designed for juniors and seniors to gain a better understanding of the voice, along with a grasp of helpful tools to navigate their own technical path as singers. There is no charge to attend.
Students who are interested in working one-on-one with Mr. Blake during the class may also submit a video audition. Five students and two alternates will be chosen for individual instruction.
Registration is required. Registration links and instructions on how to submit an audition are available on the masterclass page. Audition videos will be accepted up to Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York and The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Mr. Blake is the recipient of the 2017 George London Foundation Award, and in 2022 was recognized with a Grammy award for his role as the High Priest of Amon in The Metropolitan Opera’s “Akhnaten.”
In addition to “Le Nozze di Figaro,” his upcoming performances with The Metropolitan Opera include “The Magic Flute” and “Carmen,” among others.
