King Launches Adult Gerontology Acute Care Program for Nurse Practitioners

April 21, 2025

A new graduate-level nursing concentration is now available for practitioners seeking to expand their expertise in acute care settings.

Launching in fall 2025, King’s Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program (AGACNP) is a 100% online, cohort-based degree path designed to provide the advanced knowledge and skills required to care for adult patients in acute and critical care settings. The degree can be completed in the master of science in Nursing pathway, BSN-DNP program, or as a post-graduate certificate.

“More and more, advanced practice nurses are finding themselves practicing in hospitals and critical care environments,” said Donna Fraysier, dean of the School of Nursing. “We wanted to create a concentration that specifically teaches excellence in these settings, which can often present fast-paced, high-risk situations where prior experience and specialized training is a tremendous advantage to patients and providers alike.”

Current King students pursuing their bachelor of science in Nursing (BSN) can apply for guaranteed admission to the program, while alumni with their BSN can obtain preferred admission. Those who have achieved their master of science in Nursing (MSN) degree can also pursue the new degree as a post-master’s certificate.

“This is a versatile concentration that can help nurses gain knowledge and develop new skills in preparation for practice as a nurse practitioner in acute care,” Fraysier said. “At the completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the AGACNP national certification exam.”

The degree program can be completed in 20 months, and cohorts for fall 2025 are enrolling now. For more information, visit apply.king.edu or email Kalyn Newberry at [email protected].
