“I felt like King met all the needs for an adult learner that was trying to reintegrate into the world of academics while simultaneously working and taking care of children”
Emily Pritt

Emily grew up in the heart of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is an entrepreneur and businesswoman involved in multiple endeavors in the Knoxville area, where she is also a senior in the adult graduate studies program. “I am finishing the degree that I started over a decade ago,” Emily says.

A savvy business mind with an entrepreneurial spirit, success was inevitable, but she recognized that she needed to improve her communication skills. The majority of her work requires communicating with people, teaching them about firearm safety, and the 2nd amendment at multiple ranges. Her work has required her to travel considerably around the southeast to different gun stores.

Life for Emily was a struggle at times, and though she didn’t finish high school, education had always been important to her. Even though life had thrown her a few curveballs along the way, she was determined to find success. She studied and earned her GED, and while a single parent struggling, she was able to attend Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville and eventually earned an Associate’s degree. Little by little, she was clawing her way out of the hole. She now had enough credits and confidence to enroll in King in the Adult Undergraduate Program (AGS) to acquire a Bachelor’s degree in Communication.

“The five-week program length per class, taking one course at a time, was most enticing. I felt like I would be able to concentrate better,” Emily says. Furthermore, she indicated it was the Presbyterian roots that were also appealing since being raised with a strong Christian background, and the fact it was cost-efficient and transparent.

“I felt like King met all the needs for an adult learner that was trying to reintegrate into the world of academics while simultaneously working and taking care of children,” Emily says. But she has been able to do it and be successful both in school and as an entrepreneur. She is used to challenges and welcomes them, studies them, and finds a solution. That is the very type of person that King University attracts and the type of Adult Undergraduate student that enrolls at King. Emily highly recommends the AGS program for adults out there that want to pursue their education to improve their stations in life.

Since being in the program, she feels her communication skills have improved immensely. She is clear and more concise speaking in person, through email, text, or any medium. With her ability to overcome the difficulties of her early years to become a successful business owner and senior about ready to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree, the future is hers to own.
