Online PMHNP Certificate Overview

King University’s Post-Master’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Certificate is designed for MSN-prepared nurses seeking to expand their advanced practice credentials in psychiatric mental health care.

  • Program is offered an online format with some online synchronous sessions with nursing faculty
  • An individualized plan of study will be developed based applicant’s current transcripted evidence of MSN coursework and gap analysis
  • Applicants must have completed an MSN from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program
  • Graduates are eligible to take the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and may apply for an advanced practice nurse license as appropriate in their legal state of practice
  • Students will gain experience in behavioral health care across the lifespan, specializing in promotion of optimal mental health, prevention of psychiatric conditions and treatment of a variety of mental health disorders utilizing pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic modalities
  • A minimum of 600 clinical practicum hours are required for the advanced practice role as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Students will gain clinical experience across the lifespan in settings such as in-patient psychiatric facilities, mental health clinics, offices, and others.
