Internships

Test out a career field, earn academic credit, and gain real-world experience through King's Internship Program.

Internships

What is an Internship?

An internship is a work-based/experiential learning opportunity that:

  • Integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional workplace setting.
  • Provides students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience, develop social capital, explore career fields, and make connections in professional fields.
  • Serves as a significant recruiting mechanism for employers, providing them with the opportunity to guide and evaluate potential candidates.

In other words, internships offer an opportunity for students to “test out” potential career fields and determine vocational direction.

King University Internship Program

Take advantage of the opportunity to gain academic credit for an internship, through a required course for some majors or an elective course through others.

Internship Program Basics:

  • Pursued during fall, spring, or summer semesters.
  • In-person, virtual, or hybrid.
  • Local, regional, national, or international. On-campus internships are also permissible.
  • Internships can be 1 credit hour to 12 credit hours.
  • Each credit requires 50 hours of work at the internship.
  • Internship sites are customizable and can be developed based on individual students’ career goals. Students are not “placed” in internships — they must find, apply, interview, and accept one.
  • Internships for credit must be approved the semester before the internship semester.
  • Career Services can assist with any part of the internship process, including pursuing academic credit.
